The League of Free Worlds

Foundation
The League was founded during the collapse of the old Empire and were one of the five rebel factions that were involved.

Aligned Systems
Equinox, Foss, Omicron, Sirrius, Oberon, Allitas, Ubicqueis, Duracas, Cantara and The Haron Nebular

History
Upon the assassination of Emperor Calidus the Old Empire went into a period of civil unrest which resulted in a civil war between the two would be claimants to the throne, taxes on the outer colonies were raised to fund the war effort, A group of malcontent's calling themselves The Free worlds Alliance managed to gather support in the upper echelons of several world governments and in so doing managed to break away from the old empire entirely and before the Empire could react but not without Bloodshed as loyalist forces went on the offensive in an attempt to quell their rebellious leaders, with no space ships and few supporters in the military the Loyalists were soon subdued in a series of bloody battles.

The League of Free Worlds was born with Equinox Major being the focal point of its industrial, economic and Military power due to their large shipyards and strong military, However it wasn't long before this fledgling Stella civilization would be tested in battle, The Empire wanted its systems back and sent a large expeditionary force to subdue the rebels and bring the loyal back into the fold, When the Fleet arrived at Foss the closest system, they were greeted by a massive force of over five hundred ships lead by a young headstrong Admiral by the name of Ban Harrod, Ban's first move was to order the Imperial fleet to surrender, The imperials immediately opened fire.

The Battle lasted only a few hours Ban ordered his smaller ships to focus on the Imperial troop transports (with out which the Imperial forces would not be able to secure the rebel worlds) while the larger ships attacked the Imperial capital ships, several fresh faced captains managed to carve a name for themselves during the battle who were later dubbed the Hero's of Foss.

The Old Empire never sent a second force and the League turned its attention to bringing more systems under its protection for this purpose The League Navy was brought into being, over the next three years the League battled to Liberate as many systems as It could scoring major victories over the Old Empire and other rival rebel factions the biggest of which was the Battle of Cantara where Admiral Ban Harron was saved from total defeat by Captain Helix Falks and his small fleet of ships.

Falks earned himself a promotion to Commodore and later went on to Liberate The Haron Nebular and played a vital role in destroying the Battleship Acharon together with Captain Osha.

Peace
After the old empire fell completely and the New Empire raised from its ashes peace talks between the Imperials and the rebel factions began in earnest although only three of the five original factions survived the war, The League of Free Worlds was now recognised as an independent Galactic Civilization and one not to be trifled with.

Peace rained for a decade before the first comer to threaten the League reared up.

Known now as the Trade Conflict, The war brought several reforms to the League and birthed the League Trade Foundation and the League Defence Force and galvanized the League's solidarity, ignited a new level of nationalism within its citizens and brought about a major change in its government from a plutocracy to a Representative democracy.

After the Trade Conflict things settled down again.

The Reunion of the Hero's of Foss
Seventeen years after its formation the League of Free Worlds went on the offensive for the first time. The League Trade Foundation reported several incidents of over the top trade restrictions placed upon citizens of the League by officials of the Jahib system within the United Systems prompting the League to reach out diplomatically with the United Systems, the response they got was less than favourable and the threat of war was laid on the table and the United Systems replied with "Come on then"

Forces on both sides gathered near the boarder between the two Nations, Initially just a show of force by either side, this soon degraded into a full blown shooting war as Diplomats on either side shouted at one another across a board room table, No formal deceleration of war was ever announced.

No one can really say who fired first though to this day either side are adamant it was the other, The League fleet crossed into US space, the battle was soon reduced to a slugfest between capital ships as each side was evenly matched, one on one ship duals were common and both nations held their breath in anticipation of a victory.

None came however as either side did little but inflict major damage to each other, The members of the Hero's of Foss met with representatives of the USF to discus a ceasefire and walked out of the meeting with a None aggression pact, a fair trade agreement and a few hangovers, achieving in hours what the diplomats had failed to do in months.

United Systems Fleet

Foundation
Records indicate that the United Systems Fleet came into being around 795 years ago, when the stellar navies of sixteen systems combined to form a single fleet to protect and enforce a single set of stellar laws. Due to military action on the official records planet (Jexia IX) the first 200 hundred years of the USFs history has been lost. The USF itself claims to be thousands of years old, however the USF traces its roots back through individual navies to a host planets original maritime navy so this measurement is not valid for this report.

Aligned Systems

  • Adarian
  • Altian
  • Basian
  • Casian
  • Desian
  • Farian
  • Jahib
  • Jexian
  • Lyrian
  • Nespian
  • Omnian
  • Raxian
  • Solian
  • Tyrian
  • Volian
  • Zarian

History
As previously reported, the first 200 years of the USFs history has gone. That this was allowed to happen at all is incredible, but for it to happen to an organization the size of and as advanced as the USF is staggering. When the records begin around 696 years ago they were stored in two places in each system plus one ultra deep space cold store updated every six months. The battering that the USF took by the media shook the fleet to it's core. Records state that the entire top three echelons of command were replaced along with major technological advancements.

Peace
The USF stayed out of most major stellar actions unless it involved any of the systems they were bound to protect. The proficiency of the military meant that the United Systems were left alone, pirates and smuggling being the main problems. This eventually led the USF to realise that it had more resources than it could use. The fleet decided to use some of it's resources to make some money, so they converted some of their older ships into freighters and began moving goods around the United Systems. With guaranteed delivery, relatively quick delivery times and the ships guaranteed to dock at a USF owned and operated goods dock the money soon started to roll in. One hundred years later, the USF refit twenty five troop transports that had been laid up for scrap and began transporting passengers around the United Systems. The income generated from the passenger and freight services allowed the USF to expand it's civilian operations outside the 16 systems. It currently owns facilities in 164 systems and regularly visits nearly 250. After 300 years of profit, the USF made it's final bid for freedom. It became independent of it's parent systems. It guaranteed to protect the United Systems as it always did, but it became self governing. The last change it made was to offer it's military might out for hire, provided a stringent set of guidelines were met by the hirers.

The Jahibian Tax War
The USF ticked along nicely for the next few hundred years, until three of the local governments in the Jahib system decided they wanted to make more money and so began raising import taxes on three of the most industrialized planets in the galaxy. Due to the USF freighting in goods from all over the galaxy the Jahibians actions caused far reaching implications. The League of Free Worlds approached the Jahibians in an effort to settle the matter, but the Jahibians called the USF to get involved. The USF was unable to refuse due to the nature of the agreement with the United Systems.

It's not known when the fighting started, the USF held Jahib solely responsible for the loss of life suffered on both sides and the nature of the contract between the USF and the United Systems, and Jahib in particular, are under review. It is likely that the USF will exclude the Jahib system from military support from now on.
